PADI TEC 50 is the pinnacle of the PADI technical diving programme. You’ll dive to 50m using trimix (or oxygen-enriched air) with complex multi-gas decompression procedures. At this level, technical diving demands precision, solid gas management, and complete comfort with contingency planning.

TEC 50 builds on TEC 45 and introduces trimix diving, deeper dive planning, and the most demanding decompression procedures in the PADI recreational-to-technical pathway.

Course Overview

The course has three main components:

Knowledge Development

Trimix theory, helium fractions, heat loss and narcosis management at 50m, complex multi-gas decompression planning, extended runtime dives, and team management in deep decompression scenarios.

Skills and Planning Review

Gas plan construction for three-gas dives, contingency planning for extended decompression scenarios, and a thorough review of TEC 45 procedures before progressing to 50m dives.

Open Water TEC Dives

Four dives to 50m with full decompression procedures. Malapascua’s deep reef walls provide an excellent environment for TEC 50 training. Your instructor will evaluate your performance against PADI TEC standards throughout.

Study Materials

The course uses the PADI TEC Deep Diver manual with TEC 50-specific gas planning worksheets. All materials included in the course price.

Students who arrive with TEC 45 recent and sharp will move through the TEC 50 programme more efficiently.

Prerequisites

PADI TEC 45 certification (or equivalent) required. Minimum age is 18. Minimum 100 logged dives with documented experience in decompression diving. A current medical within the last 12 months is strongly recommended.

What Comes Next?

TEC 50 completes the PADI recreational-to-technical pathway. Beyond this, advanced trimix (TEC 65 and deeper) courses are available through specialist technical training agencies.

Ask your instructor about further pathways if you want to continue into deeper or cave/wreck technical diving.

Combine Courses

TEC 50 is most commonly combined with TEC 45 as a back-to-back package on Malapascua. It can also be combined with the TEC Sidemount Specialty for a comprehensive technical diving programme during an extended stay.
