Begin Technical Diving with PADI TEC 40 on Malapascua Island

PADI TEC 40 is the entry point into technical diving. You’ll learn to dive beyond recreational limits — using decompression procedures and planning dives to 40m with a single decompression gas. This is where recreational diving ends and a whole new level of exploration begins.

Learn to dive in paradise

Course Overview

A structured technical diving course combining classroom gas planning, pool skills, and open water TEC dives to 40m with decompression stops.

  • Duration: 3–4 days
  • Pool skills + 4 open water TEC dives
  • PADI TEC 40 certification
  • Deco gas and TEC equipment provided for training

Course Overview

The course has three main components:

Knowledge Development

Introduction to decompression theory, gas planning for a single deco gas, dive computer and table use for TEC diving, equipment requirements, and emergency procedures. Covers the physiological risks of deeper diving and how to manage them.

Pool / Confined Water

Practice valve shutdowns, regulator failures, buoyancy and trim with technical equipment, gas switches, and emergency ascent procedures in a controlled environment before moving to open water.

Open Water TEC Dives

Four dives to a maximum of 40m with planned decompression stops. You’ll run real gas plans, execute decompression procedures, and manage equipment under instructor supervision at Malapascua’s deep sites.

Study Materials

The course uses the PADI TEC Deep Diver manual and gas planning worksheets. All materials are included in the course price.

Gas planning is a significant part of technical diving — your instructor will guide you through this methodically before each dive.

Prerequisites

Prerequisites

PADI Advanced Open Water Diver or equivalent, plus PADI Rescue Diver (or equivalent). EANx (Nitrox) certification required. Minimum age is 18. Minimum 30 logged dives including experience to 30m.

Your Instructors

Our technical instructors are certified TEC instructors with extensive deep diving experience at Malapascua and beyond. TEC training here is serious, thorough, and highly practical.

Progress to TEC 45

TEC 40 is the first step in the PADI TEC progression. TEC 45 and TEC 50 follow, each adding depth and complexity. Ask about the full TEC pathway if you want to know where TEC 40 leads.

Many students complete TEC 40 and TEC 45 back-to-back during a single extended stay.

Combine Courses

TEC 40 can be combined with the TEC Sidemount Specialty or followed directly by TEC 45 for an intensive technical diving programme on Malapascua. Ask about multi-week TEC packages.
