PADI Rescue Diver + Emergency First Response on Malapascua Island
The Rescue Diver and Emergency First Response courses together make you a significantly more capable and safety-conscious diver. You’ll learn how to recognise and manage dive emergencies — both in the water and on land — and how to provide CPR and first aid. This combined course is a prerequisite for the Divemaster certification.

What’s Included
This package covers both the Emergency First Response (EFR) certification and the full PADI Rescue Diver course, completed over three to four days.
- Duration: 3–4 days
- EFR (CPR and First Aid) certification
- PADI Rescue Diver certification
- Pool skills practice + open water rescue scenarios
Course Overview
There are two parts to this combined course:
Emergency First Response (EFR)
Covers CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), AED use, and primary and secondary care first aid. EFR is run on land and does not require scuba diving. You’ll practise on mannequins and work through real-scenario exercises.
Rescue Diver – Skills and Scenarios
The Rescue course focuses on self-rescue, recognising and helping stressed or panicked divers, managing unresponsive divers at the surface, and coordinating an emergency response. Skills are practised in the pool before being applied in open water scenarios.
Open Water Rescue Scenarios
You’ll complete a series of realistic rescue scenarios in open water: towing a diver, responding to an unconscious diver, managing a missing diver situation, and more. Challenging but highly rewarding.
Study Materials
The course uses the PADI Rescue Diver manual and the EFR primary and secondary care manual. Both are available in print or as digital downloads and are included in the course price.
Online components are available for both courses — completing these before you arrive will save time on the island.
Prerequisites
Prerequisites
PADI Adventure Diver certification (or equivalent) required for the Rescue course. EFR has no dive prerequisites. Minimum age is 12. The EFR certification must be completed before or alongside the Rescue Diver course.
