The PADI Enriched Air Nitrox (EANx) course is one of the most popular specialty certifications in recreational diving. Diving with Nitrox — oxygen-enriched air — increases your no-decompression limits, meaning longer bottom times on repetitive dives. For a dive holiday on Malapascua, where you might do three or four dives a day, Nitrox makes a real difference.

Course Overview
The course covers two main areas:
Knowledge Development
Learn what Nitrox is, how it extends no-decompression limits, how to plan dives using EANx tables and dive computers, and how to manage oxygen exposure safely. Covers equipment considerations and how to analyse your cylinder before a dive.
Practical Skills
You’ll practise analysing a Nitrox cylinder and logging the oxygen percentage and MOD (maximum operating depth) before each dive — a required step every time you dive with enriched air.
Nitrox Dives
Guided dives using Nitrox blends at Malapascua’s dive sites. You’ll apply your dive planning in real conditions and experience the extended no-decompression limits firsthand.
Study Materials
The course uses the PADI Enriched Air Diver manual or eLearning. We recommend completing the online component before you arrive to maximise dive time on the water.

Prerequisites
Prerequisites
PADI Open Water Diver certification (or equivalent) required. Minimum age is 10. No prior specialty certifications are needed.

Our instructors will walk you through cylinder analysis and dive planning in a clear, practical way. Nitrox is a straightforward specialty that most divers pick up quickly.
Nitrox for Thresher Shark Dives
Monad Shoal thresher shark dives reach 25–35m depth. Nitrox significantly extends your no-decompression time at these depths, meaning more time watching the sharks. Many of our guests complete the Nitrox course specifically to dive Monad Shoal more comfortably.
Nitrox is available for all dives once you hold the certification.
