Course Overview
The package has two main components:
Advanced Open Water Course
Five adventure dives across different PADI specialties — Deep (required), Underwater Navigation (required), plus three more chosen from Underwater Photography, Naturalist, Wreck, Night, or others available at Malapascua. No classroom exams — learning happens in the water.
Enriched Air Nitrox Course
Theory covering what Nitrox is, how it extends no-decompression limits, oxygen exposure management, and how to analyse and log a Nitrox cylinder before each dive. Completed alongside or after the AOW dives.
Combined Dives
Where possible, AOW adventure dives are conducted using Nitrox — giving you practical experience of the extended bottom times immediately and making the most of your time in the water.
Study Materials
The Advanced Open Water and Enriched Air Nitrox courses each use their own PADI manuals. Both are included in the package price and available in print or as digital downloads.
Online components for both courses are available via PADI’s website. Completing them before you arrive will give you more time for diving rather than studying.
Prerequisites
Prerequisites
PADI Open Water Diver certification (or equivalent) required for the Advanced Open Water Course. Minimum age is 12 (junior certification) or 15 (full certification). Nitrox requires Open Water or above and has no minimum age restriction beyond Open Water certification.

Our instructors will help you choose the most relevant adventure dives for your interests and Malapascua’s dive conditions — expect thresher shark and wreck dives to feature where possible.
Thresher Shark Diver Specialty
The Advanced Open Water + Nitrox package is excellent preparation for the PADI Thresher Shark Diver Specialty — deeper dives at Monad Shoal become more comfortable with both certifications in place.
Ask about adding the Thresher Shark Diver Specialty as a third component of this package.
