The PADI Advanced Open Water Course takes your diving further across five specialty adventure dives — including a mandatory Deep dive to 30m and Underwater Navigation. It’s not an advanced course in the sense of being difficult; it’s about expanding what you can see and do underwater. No exams, no classroom tests — just dives.

What will my course be like?
Five adventure dives over two days, each introducing a different set of skills or environments. You choose three of the dives; Deep and Navigation are required.

Required Dives
Deep Adventure Dive (to 30m) and Underwater Navigation — both are mandatory parts of the Advanced Open Water Course and provide the core skills every advanced diver needs.
Course Overview
Elective Adventure Dives
Choose three from the specialties available on Malapascua: Underwater Photography, Naturalist, Wreck, Night, Peak Performance Buoyancy, Search and Recovery, or others. We’ll recommend the best options based on conditions during your stay.
No Exams
The Advanced Open Water Course involves no written exams and no classroom presentations. Learning happens entirely through the adventure dives and pre-dive briefings. Everything you need to know is covered before you enter the water.
Study Materials
The PADI Advanced Open Water Diver manual is included in the course price. An eLearning option is also available — completing the adventure dive sections before you arrive speeds up the briefings considerably.
We recommend completing the online elements before arrival to maximise your time diving rather than studying.
Prerequisites
Prerequisites
PADI Open Water Diver certification (or equivalent) required. Minimum age is 12 (Junior AOW) or 15 (full AOW). No dive count minimum, though recent diving experience is recommended.

Add Nitrox
Pairing the Advanced Open Water Course with PADI Nitrox is one of the best combinations we offer. Nitrox extends your no-decompression time on the Deep dive and any subsequent dives during your stay. Ask about the combined AOW + Nitrox package.
Nitrox can be added to your programme at any point — even mid-course if you decide you want it after the Deep dive.
